Do you guys know about BrickCan?
Do you guys and gals know about BrickCan? It's a totally rad LEGO fan convention IN A CASINO in Vancouver BC, Canada. From what I can tell, tickets are selling fast, so if you're from the area and want to go, or you're just hearing about it now. You get a pretty good deal on the hotel, and it's basically a near 24 hour, 4 day party for AFOLs. Plus the swag bags are awesome. I've heard rumours that the bags this year include elements that aren't even in sets yet and aren't yet cataloged in Brickset. More info here http://www.brickcan.com/ Full disclosure, while I'm not involved in the organizing of this convention, I am the Master of Ceremonies of the ceremonies. If you come, I will be giving you a door prize.

Update notes: finished adding all the bridges, added a link to photos. I will try to format everything to be a bit nicer and/or make a copy at another location that allows for easienicer formatting. As requested by raleighspritely in the other bridges thread, this post is intended to help generally newer riders figure out specifically how to get onto each bridge in each direction, where all most of the exit options go and any other weirdnesses each bridge may have. I'll assume you know roughly where you are and roughly how to get to each bridge. Some are easy to find the entrances for (Burrard), some are weird (Cambie, southbound) and some have entrances a long way from where the cars access (Golden Ears) so if they're super weird I'll try and give you more specifics. Photos from the day showing most of the bridges: https://imgur.com/a/RvTUs0V (missing: 2nd Narrows, KSB, Canada Line, Arthur Liang) And now to talking about crossing bridges! Granville - follow the instructions for Burrard or Cambie If you insist on using the GSB (don't) SB access is easiest via Howe St and NB access at 5th & Granville Burrard Easiest to get onto IMO as the access is right at the ends of the bridge
South Bound: connection is at Pacific & Burrard, SW corner. From Beach Ave your options are up Thurlow from the east end of Sunset Beach or just along Pacific from the west end of Sunset beach
as you get to the south end of the bridge @ Cornwall you can:
go right to Cornwall & Cypress
go straight, across Cornwall
then right onto Yew
more straight to Burrard & First where you can go up Burrard St
left @ Burrard & First towards Granville Island
North Bound: connection is at Cornwall & Burrard. You can also hop on the bike lane easily at 1st & Burrard
as you get to the north end you can:
right to Hornby & Pacific
across Pacific then left onto Pacific towards English Bay
straight & up the hill along Burrard to Drake, Burnaby St, Davie St
Cambie Going southbound on Cambie is super weird to get to unless you're already on Nelson St
South Bound: access is on Nelson St @ Cambie St which downtown is running almost perpendicular to the bridge. If you're coming from the northeast you can connect via Beatty
the main exit will take you to Olympic Village Station
If you cut off early (through the flexibarriers) you can pop up Cambie to go left/right on 7th
If you stay till the station you can hang a hard left at 2nd to cut under the bridge and go to Olympic Village
or cross 2nd and take Heather St south
or continue along 2nd briefly to find yourself on Seaside Bypas
North Bound: access is at Cambie & 2nd by the VPD headquarters on 5th. It's that weird intersection of numbered streets you thought were parallel but also manage to intersect
veer left takes you onto what is technically a pedestrian only way that connects to Pacific Blvd EB, yield to pedestrians.
right takes you onto a hairpin
first right connects you to Cooperage Way/Marinaside and basically the Seawall
second right will take you up a short ramp and connect to the Smithe St bike "lane" which can be used to connect to Pacific WB, Richards or all the way up the hill past Burrard & Smithe
Lion's Gate North Bound:
climb the Causeway through Stanley Park, it's not too bad especially with the "new" fence
do a 1/2 Stanley Park loop and as you go around the right turn at what you'll think is the top of the hill you'll see a road to the left with a gate, take that and turn right when you hit the causeway
watch for the little chicane just before the bridge
descent down the north side of bridge can be a bit rough & bumpy
when you get to the north end stay right and go down the little road
if you go HARD right when it levels out you can connect to
the Spirit Trail east bound
Taylor Way which will take you to Parkgate, hang a left at the mall and you can connect to the trail over to Ambleside
if you go roughly straightl/left it'll connect onto Marine and along to Capilano
South Bound:
once you're back directly under the bridge, there's a ramp up the west side of the bridge going north, take that, it'll open up and hang a hard right to turn to face south
on exit at the pumphouse(?) you can
continue south
you'll come across a road to the right, taking it will get you to Park Dr just before Prospect Point
continuing straight takes you along the Causeway and connects onto Georgia ST
hang a 180deg right, then you can either:
cut under the bridge to go back north
go left up a fairly steep, narrow paved path to Prospect Pt
Second Narrows/IronworkersThis is one of the weirdest/awkwardest, particularly at the north end North Bound:
access is at Cambridge & Cassiar. You can connect up via Cassiar from Adanac or Bridgeway St & a small path if you're coming from Portside
as you turn right off Cassiar onto Cambridge take the small path to the left, follow the path down, along and up and it'll take you straight onto the bridge, yield to oncoming people
alternate access is a path off the left side of Fellowes st. It connects closer to the bridge deck but IMO isn't worth taking
Exits:
as you round the right turn of the ramp you can:
go left at the pedestrian controlled crosswalk and
cross Main to go west to Phibbs, A&W etc
hard left onto the bike path parallel to Main and connect to the WB bike path on Barrow st
go straight and connect to Dollarton, Old Dollarton
left on Old Dollarton then onto Riverside or Seymour River can be used for getting to Seymour Parkway, right goes up to Seymour, left can connect to Cap U
straight on Dollarton can be used for going out to Deep Cove
South Bound Access is here basically across from Phibbs. Many ways to get to it, but you've gotta get to that spot to go south. Exiting: takes you down through the trees, watch for the pair of switchbacks. You'll end up at the bottom of Skeena St.
right takes you onto the Portside bike route
left takes you up Skeena through the tunnel
turn right across the crosswalk as you exit the tunnel takes you onto the path you may have used for getting onto the bridge NB, go left to connect back to Cassiar
continue up the hill gets you to Skeena & Cambridge
it's 6 of One, Half a Dozen of the other if you're going south
Arthur Laing I regard this as an "experts only" type bridge that I wouldn't recommend to anyone not comfortable with riding in fairly close proximity to cars. There's no separated lane and just a narrow shoulder. That said, I don't feel unsafe on this bridge for some reason, but that might just be from riding it a bunch and being used to riding next to cars. Anyways, onto how to get on/off: Southbound: access is via the car ramp at where Marine & Granville all come together in a 6 lane clusterfuck that was meant to be the highway through Vancouver. Normally I access coming off NW Marine, onto the clusterfuck, pick up speed down the hill and (with a lot of shoulder checking) get across the right most lane onto the ramp. Go up the ramp and stick to the right. Exiting: things get dicey/exciting. You'll be crossing roads at speed so be shoulder checking.
Just before the car exit (and right before the overpass) you can dive right onto a pathway
going right, then right again is probably easiest for most connections here
this path can be used to go around McArthurGlen and connect to Grauer Rd and then onto Templeton to Iona
take it to connect to Airport Rd and the bit of mess of trails and eventuall down to Russ Baker Way
1st Car Right: Russ Baker Way, takes you around an off-ramp, will take you SB and connects to No2 Rd
cross Russ Baker exit (watch for cars exiting), keep going along, you can go right on Templeton and go out to Iona Beach
North Bound: you can either access off the paths off Airport Rd here or by riding north along Russ Baker Way and basically sticking right and following the signs to Vancouver. Exiting: again a bit dicey with some potential lane crossing
Sticking right takes you left and onto Marine WB/Granville
If it's not too busy and/or you brought your sprinter legs, you can hammer and cross lanes to go left at the first light and connect onto Marine
If not, carefully get to the right and make your way up to cross at the same light.
crossing over (carefully) to the left ramp will take you right and onto Marine EB. You can take your first right and go down Oak St, left on Kent Ave S and eventually connect to Cambie St. I don't know if I've taken this route more than once or twice so YMMV.
Pitt River This is one of the nicest crossings. All the recently built (or updated) bridges are really, really nice once you're on the deck (Pitt River, Port Mann, Golden Ears + Ironworkers post update). The cycle/pedestrian lane is on the north side of the span and is nice and wide. Access on the west end requires crossing Belfast Ave/Fremont Connector that loops under the bridge. Since access is all for the one side crossing my instructions are written for West->East travel but basically just do them in reverse for East->West. Coming from NW (Trabouley Poco Trail/Deboville Slough), you do a couple zigzags and hairpins and crossing Belfast St but you can see your target the whole time so this bridge is honestly one of the easiest to get onto. Coming from the SW, you go under the bridge parallel to the Fremont Connector then see the access to your left. If you were to keep going on the path instead you'd eventually end up at Deboville Slough. East end of the bridge drops you in Pitt Meadows. As you exit (eastbound) you can immediately do 180deg turn left to get onto the trails. Another left at the river to go south, north and you can make your way out to Pitt Lake on the trails. To access the trail parallel to, and on the south side of, Lougheed Highway take the left at the river then left again at Ferryslip Rd. If you go straight Old Dewdney Trunk Rd is a pretty nice ride towards Maple Ridge. Golden Ears Alright, this one is possibly the most difficult unless you know exactly where to go, partly because they're a long way along the bridge from where cars access. The Southbound Access is at 113B & Airport Way (Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows). The northbound access is at 100A Ave & 201St (Langley) Southbound
You can access the SB access either from Airport Way (coming from the west) or along Maple Meadows Way (coming from the north by Meadowcentre mall). If you're coming from the north or east you go west at the 113B roundabout, cross the road, then left at the second roundabout and hop into the bike lane. If you're coming from the east hang a right at the roundabout and hop into the bike lane.
The SB exit involves a rather fun ramp down and drops you in an industrial area. Unless you're going east, my recommendation is work your way west until you get to 98A & 192, cross to the far side then hop on the GoldenEars Greenway.
Northbound Access is at 100A Ave & 201St. You go up the multilevel round ramp. Your exit will basically be the aforementioned 113B roundabout, you can go straight through it to get onto Maple Meadows Way towards the mall, right will change into 203St as it turns north or go left and west towards the airport. Canada Line Bridge This one is on the side of the Canada Line bridge section between Marine & Cambie Station & Bridgeport Station. North connection is on Kent Ave S @ Cambie. However you have to go east from Kent Ave N & Cambie to turn south to get onto Kent Ave S and access the ramp. If you're coming down Cambie, hang a right on Kent Ave N. South Connection is at River Road and Van Horne Way. If you're going North then east, my recommendation is take Cambie north, then cut east at 59th. Kent Ave N between Cambie and Ontario sucks butt and cars are frequently impatient assholes on that section (it's also rough, needs a repave and has a lot of rail tracks). If you're going north then west you can go west on Kent Ave N and then right on Heather before climbing a bit and taking the westbound route of your choice. If you're just going north then Cambie, Ontario & Heather are all pretty good choices with Ontario & Heather being quieter. I can't remember how all of Heather's crossings are since I haven't ridden it past 59th in years. If you're going South, you can go:
west along River Rd towards the casino & Bridgeport Station
continue SW around the clusterfucks that are Bridgeport Rd, SeaIsland Way and you can return to River Rd and hop onto a gravel trail that you can take pretty much all the way to Steveston
south on Van Horne way to eventually connect onto Garden City Way. This route is about 95% bike lane but theres a one or two spots where taking the sidewalk is unfortunately the prudent choice (I think the south side of Sea Island Way for ~50m) before the bike lane reappears.
east on River Rd towards Shell Rd. If you take Shell Rd far enough south there's a gravel trail that you can use to get to Hammersmith Gate, Horseshoe Way and across to Rice Mill Rd where you can find the Massey Tunnel Shuttle (this is my quiet route to the ferry, my fast route is to hammer south on No5)
Formatting is becoming a pain because this is getting long. Sorry! Port Mann This one is like the Pitt River Bridge in that the pedestrian/bike path is only on the north/east side of the bridge deck. West access is where the Port Mann passes over United Boulevard and where Unite intersects the Mary Hill Bypass offramps. If you're coming off the bridge you can go south/west on United and eventually work your way over towards Braid Station. If you go east on the Mary Hill Bypass you can connect to the Traboulay PoCo trail, Argue St and work your way up to the Pitt River bridge. There's also a mess of trails in and around Colony Farm but you're on your own for that :) East access is a ways up a pretty decent hill at 152st/112Ave by Dogwood Campgrounds. If you're going north/west, the signage is good. Just don't take the overpass over the highway. How you get to 152/112...up to you. It's a big grid! Alex Fraser Ok, this one is another bit of a mess in terms of access. I don't think this one is technically unidirectional like the others, but I recommend riding the same way as cars are travelling and this guide will be based on that. Careful on the deck, there's a bunch of spots where you have to dodge the bases of signs and other spots where the path just shifts left/right. Southbound: You've made it over the Queensborough or come in from Richmond. You've made it onto the Annacis Channel bridge and are approaching Annacis island. You'll see a bus-stop on an island, you want to get there (if not busy, drop the curb & cut across, otherwise there's a crosswalk to use), take the crosswalk that goes parallel to the bus-only section of intersection, onto the sidewalk on the far-far side and then left and you'll see the path onto the bridge. You'll get dropped off with the choice of left or right. Left takes you towards HWY17, River Rd which are the two options for getting to the ferry (take River, it's quieter and only marginally slower). Right will take you under the bridge, and after you go past Planet Ice you can go left towards River Rd east, right-then-right to get onto Nordel north/east or just right for the Delta-South Surrey Greenway. If you're trying to get to South Surrey, go as if you're going up Nordel, get over the overpass, then take the trail that cuts back to the right. This is the North Delta Greenway and is superior to the DSS Greenway in basically every way including being WAY smoother (I ride it on my carbon road bike on 25mm tires). North Bound: Starting from Planet Ice, take the path up onto the bridge, ride across, question why you're out here and didn't just take the Massey Shuttle to get home faster... At the north end of the bridge, you'll end up next to the Annacis exit ramp. At the end of it, you want to take the small crosswalk onto the island with the bus stop, across Cliveden ave onto the island on the far side, then across another little crosswalk onto the path and hang a left. Stick to this path, you'll go back over the Annacis Channel and find yourself at a zig-zagging ramp. At the bottom of that you have the options of:hard right: path through to Hamilton Highway Park where you can take an overpass towards River Rd left then right: onto Boundary Rd then Dyke rd, you can use this to get over towards Westminster Highway via Fraserwood Way. left then left (generally recommended): take Boundary Rd north. At Boundary & Boyd you can go right to the Queensborough or left onto Westminster Hwy which you can use to get all the way to Richmond or to connect to River Rd Queensborough because New West is at a 45deg angle I'll be using "up/down and top/bottom" for this bridge because it's effectively a hill. Top is 22nd St station end, bottom is Queensborough Landing. The top connection is just below 22nd St Station. If you're coming from 22nd St station just take the bridge down, it'll drop you on Boyd St. Left takes you to QB Landing. Right takes you to...not a lot. It's narrow, you'll probably have to slow down a bunch as you pass people. If you're coming from Market Crossing area or New West (both via Marine Dr) I recommend taking the "up" side of the bridge down because it has about 1% of the traffic the "down" side does. To get to it, the access is the ramp on the "cars up" side of the bridge. Otherwise, you can use the ramp on the "cars down" side to connect to the "down" side. Either way as you're going down, watch for the hairpins at the bottom! If you're going up and heading to downtown New West take the "up" side. Head east along Marine/Stewardson. You can eventually head right down a side street to get to S&O because that's why you're in New West right? If not, you're at S&O now. Best way to get through to the rest of downtown is via the Quay. If you're going up and heading to anywhere else take the "down" side and go all the way to 22nd St Station. Right and past the station connects to 7th Ave across New West. Left you can use to get onto both Marine Dr or Marine Way to go west to Market Crossing, Big Bend, Glenlyon, River District. Straight turns into the BC Parkway and travels under the skytrain past Edmonds, Royal Oak, Metrotown stations. Knight St Recommendation: if you can, keep going west and take the Canada Line Bridge. This bridge was NOT intended for cyclists at all as you're about to learn and this section may get a little rant-y. Northbound:
Access is off Bridgeport. Technically you're not supposed to ride on the roadway, but the sign for that is so late onto the bridge you have to know this in advance unless you want to stop and lift your bike over the concrete barrier.
That said, assuming you knew to get onto the sidewalk somewhere at the start of the on-ramp before the barrier begins (it starts at a crosswalk and there's no curb cut), you'll be riding on a pretty narrow sidewalk with barriers both sides. It's rough.
You'll eventually get to an off-ramp, this is Mitchell Island. You'll need to take the crosswalk across to the left. The cut in the barrier is super narrow. Cross the island, drop the curb (again no curb cut) and cross to the next section of sidewalk. Continue north.
Next spot you'll get to gives the option of a crosswalk to the left, riding straight into a post in the middle of the path, or dodging the post and continuing straight/veering right. Go right, this takes you down to Marine Dr.
At Marine you'll find signs pointing to the Kent, Inverness & Borden bike routes
Kent involves following the path to the right and taking your first right
Inverness involves taking the couple crosswalks and getting across Marine, going under the KSB overpass, hop back on the sidewalk after the bridge and follow the signs up to Inverness
Borden I've never done, but I think involves getting across Marine, then taking the sidewalk east to the first street north
Canada won't follow U.S. and declare national emergency over coronavirus: health minister
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/champagne-coronavirus-airlift-china-1.5447130 I am so utterly disgusted, upset, and concerned by my governments’ kowtowing and ass kissing of the CCP, and flat-out lying to our population, and ignoring FACTUAL evidence now provided by MULTIPLE countries of H2H transmission of 2019-nCov, and complete dismissals of any established risk factors... Just some of the idiotic comments and lies from the article: "We've been following closely the recommendations of the World Health Organization," Hajdu said in an interview with CBC's Power & Politics. Hajdu said Health Canada maintains there is no evidence that the virus can be transmitted by people who are asymptomatic — who have no symptoms — despite a German report suggesting otherwise.” And: "We're comfortable that we're completely up to date in terms of our approach and what the science says. There is a very low risk to Canadians," Hajdu said.” Just this morning I was at Granville Island, a national landmark market in Vancouver BC, the city of one of the confirmed infections, and a whole Chinese tour group was walking around, all wearing surgical masks (useless protection too), and half of them were coughing up a storm!!! WTF??? Why were these people even allowed in? That’s right, because our government loves to brown nose to the CCP money they dump into our economy, much of it illegally thru our casinos and real estate. I have never been more embarrassed and disgusted to call myself Canadian than I do at this moment. People, our leaders have sold us out to China, even as other countries, including our closest ally, the US, smartens up and closes their borders to Chinese nationals. DO NOT listen to the lies our bureaucrats are perpetrating to us, and prepare. There is enough scientific information out now, especially the new Lancet paper, to warrant preparedness and caution. It is too early to panic, for sure, but the reactionary stance of our government is only going to facilitate an outbreak, so it is prudent for the populous to prepare independently. I will. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30260-9/fulltext
Beware of casinos and other high-risk places [BC, Canada]
I'm a primary care provider in Vancouver, Canada. Patient comes in with 5 day history of fever, cough with tinge of blood, body ache, headache. No travel history. I switched to N95 mask for the first time. Patient works as dealer at a local Casino, where several colleagues (card/slot dealers, supervisor) recently came down with similar illness last week. Of course, this could simply be a case of flu or bronchitis as well. Strictly speaking the patient does not fit BCCDC testing criteria) yet, and I'm not certain if the patient would be tested at the hospital. Patient observes that there are many travelers who arrived from China and went straight to casinos without self-quarantine. Stay vigilant out there. Addendum: Omg Contagion movie! Pt would Not fit the new U.S. criteria either, as no close contact with lab-confirmed case (there are only 8 in BC), no travel history, and not severe enough ( severe acute lower respiratory illness (e.g., pneumonia, ARDS) requiring hospitalization and without alternative explanatory diagnosis (e.g., influenza) ) https://www.reddit.com/Coronavirus_BC/comments/fak9jl/personal_observation_vancouver_put_on_my_n95_mask/
I'm Sam Cooper, investigative journalist for Global News who reports on B.C.’s money laundering crisis. AMA.
Hi Reddit, I’m Sam Cooper, a Global News national investigative reporter, covering the money laundering crisis in B.C. For about five years I’ve been uncovering elements of international underground banking, that appear to have had a big impact on housing prices in Vancouver especially, and Canada’s fentanyl overdose crisis. What I’ve found, is that the powerful gangs that control the North American heroin trade, now dominate Canada’s fentanyl trade, and over the past few decades they have developed methods to launder money at scale in B.C. casinos. This latest series of stories shows how B.C.’s NDP government failed to understand or impede the arrival of transnational organized crime gangs and loan sharks, when baccarat was introduced in casinos and bet limits raised by about 1900 per cent. Ask me anything about how gangs launder money at B.C. casinos, the effects of laundered money on the housing market and drug trade, and why the B.C. government hasn’t done anything about it. Proof: https://twitter.com/GlobalBC/status/1125461679737835525 EDIT: Thanks to everyone for participating – and engaging with meaningful questions. I will go back through the thread and consider any points I couldn’t get to. There are lots of interesting legal and regulatory matters that are in flux on these stories, and I think it’s fair to say your reading and responding to our reports is pushing the conversation. You can follow my reporting here https://twitter.com/scoopercooper

Vancouver Abraham vortex group meets on the dance floor to a live band!
we stopped attending the Vancouver law of attraction Abraham Hicks Meetup group after hearing Abraham's words saying that, words don't teach. Now just following the Abraham tenet to just hang out with fun fun fun people who are loud. Yes, those are the exact words of Esther in one of the YouTube videos, I think the one that is titled, be irresponsible, on YouTube. So, we've evolved our high flying disc vortex group to get happy at the starlite casino's redbar lounge's live band dance floor in New Westminster, BC, metro Vancouver, Canada. It's free to attend that dance venue. how to find us? You'll see that we are dancing with lots of energy, and lots of fun, in the middle or on the right side of the dance floor, usually. Very easy to spot the group, because we're the ones who are the most energetic, have the biggest smiles, and you'll see that we are the happiest people there. So this is usually on Friday and or Saturday nights. Alternatively, we may be at the Grand Villa casino or the hard Rock casino in Coquitlam. The grand villa casino is in Burnaby, metro Vancouver. Should be stressed that we do not gamble. None of us gamble, except for 1 person who still it's aligned with the slot machines, LOL. In my opinion, smart people don't gamble. I go there only because the best cover bands play at starlight. The redbar lounge has no cover charge. There are free shuttle buses from Vancouver SkyTrain stations.
First time I learned that Gerald Cotton died in India a week later I read that many hospitals were asked if Gerald Cotton had been a patient and/or died there on December 9, 2018. The replies were no. Then sometime later a CEO of one of the hospitals, Fortis Escorts Hospital in Jaipur, previously approached says he died in their hospital. Suspiciously, Prateem Tamboli who was CEO of Fortis Escorts Hospital suddenly quits in December 2008! The same month that Gerald Cotton died in that hospital. (See Linkedin) Why did he quit? Prateem Tamboli ostensibly went to another hospital affiliated with a university (see LinkedIn) How did the CEO come into information the staff, and reporters/investigators were unable to discover? Did former CEO, Prateem Tamboli benefit from or have a large financial transaction in his favour around that time? The new CEO Dr. Ashutosh Raghuvanshi was appointed February 7, 2019. Which leads me to believe that Prateem Tamboli's departure was unplanned and very quick. There was no orderly transition that usually takes place. Have the government officials who provided the Death Certificate in India been investigated for corruption? It was reported Gerald Cotton’s wife, Jennifer Robertson, escorted him to hospital. Are we sure that if a man was escorted to the hospital that man is/was Gerald Cotton? Is there any DNA proof this was Gerald Cotton? Where are the pathology samples (which are normally held for 1 year) which surely were taken to confirm septicemia? Have they been secured? Has there been any attempt to secure DNA or body samples from India or a body if it was in Canada? Was the body cremated in India? Was the body delivered to Canada? If so how long after the death? How was it transported? Did the funeral home receive the body/ashes? Under what authority did the funeral home in Halifax issue a death certificate? I believe by international law Death Certificates could only be issued by the jurisdiction where the death occurred. First I heard Gerald Cotton died alone in India, more recently I heard that Jennifer Robertson was there, taking him to the hospital. What? Ever changing stories lead to suspect behaviour This is extremely fishy. The authorities were slow to respond to this fraud and should have taken control of the body, pathology samples, etc. We do know that Gerald Cotton (had multiple identities and passports) and Jennifer Robertson (who has changed her name) were both involved in the Quadriga fraud by transferring money that was not theirs and buying properties. A search warrant should be executed on Jennifer Robertson to see if she has multiple identities and passports. I believe they realized the hens were coming to roost very soon so I wouldn’t for one second doubt that they “managed” this death. The authorities should look for any previous contact with known "disappearance experts". All "fake" identities should be searched for financial/property transactions. There is an expert in Vancouver who helps people disappear off the face of the earth and provides them with new identities. I wonder if he could shed light on what might have occurred here. I wonder who provided Gerald Cotton's passports. I have previously read that when people (criminals, financiers who absconded with money) want to disappear they go to countries where corruption is rampant and buy death certificates and are cremated (hopefully the body provided is someone who recently died of natural causes in the country) then the ashes are shipped back home. Wonder if this happened here? Family members are either non-the-wiser or complicit but blame the "dead" individual to deflect their involvement. The complicit ones often move away after things settle down just "to get away from the controversy" - in many instances they cut contacts and disappear too. Then later they may marry a new person who has had extensive reconstruction of their face and their fingerprints have been removed. The Trustees need to provide these answers in the reports but maybe they are mum because there is an investigation by the FBI but reportedly the RCMP are not investigating. Same old same old. They never investigate organized crime until someone else asks questions that leave them red faced. Just look at the money laundering at BC Casinos and this is one more thing to add to the list.
Hello everyone! Figured we would keep a running list of the upcoming shows with times and the opening act since that seems to be a common question! The times should all be the local time. Please let me know any corrections. I will keep this updated with new dates and announcements! Also figured I'd add a basic "schedule for the show" day since that seems to be a common question as well. Day of show rundown
Doors are at whatever time
8 PM - opening band should start
8:30/45 - opening act ends, set change begins
9 PM - The Killers come on
11 PM - The killers finish
Please check your venue for actual times. Times are subject to change based on the band and venue, so these are approximations based on experiences of users from recent shows. I just edited it based on my experience as well as some more feedback from other shows.

Money laundering hikes BC real estate prices by five per cent: report
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 89%. (I'm a bot)
VICTORIA - The cost of buying a home in B.C. increased by as much as five per cent last year due to more than $5 billion in dirty money from organized crime laundered through the province's real estate sector, according to a new expert panel report. Former deputy attorney general Maureen Maloney chaired the panel on money laundering, which released a report Thursday that concluded it "Cautiously estimates that almost five per cent of the value of real estate transactions in the province result from money laundering investment." "Successfully reducing money laundering investment in B.C. real estate should have modest but observable impact on housing affordability," read the Maloney report. Those are the years when the Vancouver real estate market really spiked with values in some areas increasing by over 40 and 50 per cent and capital outflows from China at record highs before regulators in Beijing made it more difficult to take money out of China and various levels of government in Canada implemented various taxes that slowed the local real estate market. The examination of real estate and money laundering comes after investigative reports in recent months on casinos, luxury automobiles, horse racing and the financial sector. Deviations from Basic Strategy for No-Hole Card Games
Hi all, I've been dabbling (CSM = no counting) in my local Casino's (Vancouver, BC, Canada) $5 games with the following rules: 3:2, H17, DAS, Double any two, No re-splitting aces (1 card each), Late Surrender. As my title implies, the dealer does not deal a hole card until after the player action closes. If the dealer ends up with a Natural then all doubles and splits are refunded (including double after split) and only the original wager is lost. My question is whether or not there should be deviations from BS in certain situations when you are anchoring against various dealer cards. I understand that normally table position does not matter since the cards are dealt out in a random order but I can't help but feel that controlling the dealer's hole card with a hit/stand might affect your standard decision making. Let me illustrate with an example: You are dealt 16 and dealer shows T. I understand this is a marginal decision between hitting/standing and that BS says you should surrender, but I feel if you hit with the expectation of getting a card that helps your hand (A-5) you are better off leaving it for the dealer most of the time and hoping he busts (with the exception of the A). If the next card is another T (or 7-9) you are screwed either way (and with a 6 you are obviously better standing). Obviously there are more complicated sequences of cards than I mentioned that can also make your decision look genius/stupid but I am trying to convey a point. Thoughts? Can anyone run a sim to show me how my line of thinking is wrong? If it's not wrong then what do you think some other deviations might be? All comments and criticisms are welcome.
Hi, everybody, Ed here. Here on RSP, we've got an extensive and complex canon going on which all of the characters fit into. But one of the things that keeps coming up - and is subsequently never addressed - is lore. I'm not going to lie to you: the established lore is immense. With so many new people joining in, I'm worried that such extensive backstory might scare new folks away. We don't want that. So this post is dedicated to the lore of this subreddit, and hopefully, can become a complete compendium of the important and relevant information concerning our characters and the locations they come from. I'm going to post the lore concerning my characters as an example. If you have anything to add, post it in the comments below, and I'll add it up here. Remember: This is established lore. Try to avoid posting things that you are planning on doing; focus on things that have already been talked about, even if they've only been mentioned once. Also, try to avoid including characters in your lore. We have your characters' info as per their original post introducing them. We don't need more info on them, just on the world that they inhabit. With all that said, let's get started.
Species
Race
Description
Guardians
A species of transcendent beings from the fringes of reality, the Guardians do not protect the various species of the universe; rather, they are defenders of entropy. They have the unique ability to see the threads of chaos that weave through the universe, and whenever something threatens entropy's place in events, they are charged with correcting it. (For example, they are responsible for keeping demigods out of human wars.)
Shadows
The Shadows were the antithesis of the Guardians. They were a violent race, which turned its attention to Earth a hundred years ago. They were defeated by Earth's heroes, completely wiped out in the wake of the battle.
Sylphs
The Sylphs are, for all intents and purposes, a dead species. They were a fairy-like people, invisible to almost everyone; they were unseeable by anyone that they did not explicitly trust. They were powerful warriors, but were wiped out by an unnamed enemy.
von Reichert Vampires
Circe von Reichert's family has grown into a respectable sovereign nation. Her children are fast, strong, and well-educated by Circe herself. They do not share in Circe's unique special abilities, but they have inherited her resistance to sunlight, and are only slightly weakened when outside during the day.
Sangron's Vampires
Count Sangron has been creating a large family inside the Baltic Empire over the past century. The power of the vampires depends on what generation they are. The weaknesses they possess also depend on the generation. First gen vampires are only weak to decapitation and holy weapons. Second gen vampires are much more vulnerable to holy weapons, and also are weak to silver. Third gen vampires are weakened when in strong sunlight, but not harmed. Fourth gen vampires are badly hurt by sunlight, and can die from extended exposure. Fifth generation and beyond are vulnerable to all typical vampire weaknesses. First Generation Vampires are not converted through biting, but converted through magic like Sangron did to himself.
The Senshi
The Senshi are a race of protector spirits with power levels ranging from just above human to those of gods. They are lead by Kami no Senshi, the being created by Maximum Monkey to defend the universe. An fierce sense of loyalty is common for Senshi.
The Twilight
Little is known about the Twilight. Is it a power source or is it a race? Seen only in a single family line on earth, the only living Twilight, or user of Twilight, depending on which theory you believe, is Elektra Hart.
The Chosen
The Chosen are a race indistinguishable from humans save for their control over what seems to be some form of magic. Their powers come from the universe choosing them at random from a pool of every sapient organism on earth. The Chosen have no particular consistencies, but may exhibit differing eye or hair colours from regular humans.
Kyslers
A race of humans that have complete control over crystal. Rarely do children of this race have strong powers but if they do the amount of power they can attain is endless. Their abilities extend beyond crystals and they have been known to train people to use the energy of the cosmos.
Groups
Organization
Description
Refuge
Originally founded by Clarence "Fat-Cat" McGaw, the group was intended to be a safe haven for supers who did not want to take a side in the battle between good vs evil. The group was handed to Dr.Jackson Dark, a geneticist who had worked with McGaw in the past. Dark became paranoid that the supers within Refuge would eventually overpower him, so he had them all killed and amalgamated their DNA in his own projects. Refuge faded into obscurity, and was recently revived by Dark's great-great-grandson, Teri Tucker.
Warlords
A group for supers who are of the more direct approach to getting to their goals. Often seen as villains, they aim to change the world in a different fashion than most. It is Led by Mercia, who is a strict, but fair leader.
Felix Industries
Another organization that can be attributed to Fat-Cat, Felix Industries has been the leading weapons and technology developer since its inception. Adeptus Astartes
This group is the collective name for the Martian police force. The most famous of the group is the Grey Knights, who is a group of diligent psykers, aiming to keep the peace in the most effect way possible. One of he less known branches is the Iron hands, who are actually all failed Psykers, choosing instead to specialize in siege warfare and artillery work. An off hand note is, that in secret, even from Siegfried, this group is a fanatical cult, worshiping St.George as their god, seeing his strength as nothing but divine power in motion.
Lucky Frog Inc.
Luck Frog Inc. started as a chain of casinos until Eruka began investing into other industries like food and entertainment, allowing her to open chains of things like grocery stores and theatres. She incorporated these into the SRZ.
Neo-Protectors

After the original leader Charles Haywood, committed suicide, his second in command Furnace took the lead. Now they are building strength waiting for a weak moment to strike.
CAN🍁CO
Often jokingly referred to as Ras-Cran-Co, CAN🍁CO is a major beverage company based out of Vancouver, BC, that bought out PepsiCO in the 2070s, offering a wide range of cool, refreshing beverages.

Location and Description
Refuge Sanctuary
Nevada - The Refuge Sanctuary is a massive underground facility, hidden under one of GenCorp's larger laboratories. The Sanctuary had thousands of defenses mechanisms when it was first built, but time has left many of those systems unusable. The Sanctuary will still repair itself if damaged, and will lock out anyone who might register as hostile to the people within.
von Reichert Manor
Toronto, Canada - A bit outside of Toronto is a massive, beautiful stone manor. Within are over 200 vampires, all of them children of Circe von Reichert. They are a peaceful, content people, and the manor they live in is recognized as its own sovereign nation.
Felix Industries Main Office
Seattle, WA - The Felix Industries main office building is an open forum, and people are free to come and go as they please. Felix Industries is always happy to answer the public's questions and concerns with absolute disclosure, even concerning their most lucrative projects.
Mars
Terraformed and established by St.George in 2014 with the help of Felix Industrial. In the Year 2114 Siegfried the son of St.George is king. Siegfried changes the form of government, by dividing the planet up into city-states, and instituting a democracy. Mars is a predominantly agricultural based society, with few major cities. A few of those cities are: Persepolis, Apollos, and Pandora City.
Pandora City
A large city, were the immigrants from New Rome went when in 2014 when New Rome was nearly destroyed by Nidhoggr. It in turn was destroyed by the beast in 2072.
Persepolis
The Crown Jewel of Mars, this shining city is a grand marble metropolis. It is a shining light into the darkness.
Apollos
Apollos is a poorer city, riddled with petty crime and thievery. It is home to many minor criminal supers, who use their powers for business rather than for violence.
Muspelheim
Muspelheim is ruled by Surtr, and it annexed Hell after his conquest of it. Surtr directly rules over Muspelheim itself, hell is broken up into circles based on punishment and also into different societal classes.
Super Reconstruction Zone
Mars - The reconstruction zone is a massive city-state that is surrounded by a large wall, more like a gated community. Here supers can live free and easy, supported by the lucky frog brand products Eruka has sponsored. The SRZ also has the emergency 'nullifier' as secret piece of tech designed to suppress the powers of supers inside the zone should something horrible occur. It is a secret and is not easy to operate nor does Eruka wish to use it.
Xavier Estate
Located just south of Ottawa, Canada, the Xavier Estate is a very large stretch of private property just off the Mississippi River (the Canadian one, off of the Ottawa River) owned by the wealthy Xavier family and the location of their main family residence, a rather large and beautiful mansion. The Xavier Estate, as a legal entity, has recently inherited/assimilated the estate of Sir Reginald White based in York, England, in a quiet deal behind closed door, and has of late been taking a large interest in events pertaining to the magical and occult (of which the White estate has long been involved with.)
The Neo-Tower
Tokyo, Japan - The Neo Tower is the home base of the Neo-Protectors, a massive tower holding training grounds, living spaces, and all other sorts of things

The Chair

Hey Rosetta!, a great band from Newfoundland, is on tour in the US this (and next) month, you should check them out.
I first heard about Hey Rosetta! when I was living in St. John's. I was invited out to their CD release show having never heard of them before. I was blown away and have been making sure to see them anytime they swing through Nova Scotia. They are a highly entertaining live show and if you live in or near these cities it would be worth checking them out. I think they are touring with Hot Hot Heat (also Canadian). Some of my favourites of their videos: There's An Arc - Very fun video for “There’s An Arc” filmed in the lead singer's (Tim) house. I believe it is all one take. Red Heart - video for “Red Heart” which is one of their more well known tracks I think. It has been on CBC radio 2 a bunch. Red Song - “Red Song” is not from any album (Their is an EP of it though) but it is just wonderful. Black Heart - Live video from the Majestic Theatre in St. John's (incidentally where I first saw them play), thanks to Bumblebeeman for mentioning this tune. Olympic Video Essay - Stephen Brunt’s video essay on Canada’s 2010 Olympic experience (which ends with “Red Heart”). On January 27, 2016, the British Columbia Provincial Nomination Program (“BC PNP“) re-opened its Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC programs, and introduced the Skills Immigration Registration System.
The Skills Immigration Registration System is an expression of interest system to manage BC PNP Skills Immigration application intake. It is similar to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (“IRCC”, previously “CIC”) Express Entry system, as only registrants who are invited by the BC PNP to submit full nomination applications can actually apply for nomination certificates. Simply meeting program requirements does not guarantee an Invitation to Apply for nomination.
The BC PNP determined that an application intake management system would be necessary in 2016 as the BC PNP had to frequently suspend intake to its programs in 2015. On March 31, 2015, the BC PNP announced a 90-day pause on intake to its Skills Immigration programs. On July 2, 2015, the BC PNP re-opened its Skills Immigration program to limited intake, and the programs were full within 36 hours. On September 1, 2015, the BC PNP suspended intake to its Express Entry BC programs, and, with the limited exception of a 50 spot opening in November, the BC PNP has not accepted applications to its programs since.
While the Skills Immigration Registration System is designed to prevent similar program closures in 2016, it does mean that many individuals who qualify for BC PNP Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC programs will be unable to apply this year.
The Skills Immigration Registration System is open, and is now accepting registrants. Potential applicants must qualify for a BC PNP Skills Immigration program, or an Express Entry BC program, at both the time of registration and application.
Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC
The BC PNP Skills Immigration stream contains the following programs:
Skilled Workers
Health Care Professionals
International Graduates
International Post-Graduates
Entry Level and Semi-Skilled
North East Pilot Project
While the detailed requirements of each program are beyond the scope of this newsletter, a brief summary of each program, including any significant changes from 2015, are as follows.
The Skilled Workers program is for individuals who have an offer of indeterminate, full-time employment with an eligible employer in British Columbia. The position must be in an occupation classified under National Occupational Classification (“NOC”) Skill Level 0, A, or B. Applicants must have a minimum of two years of directly related full-time (or full-time equivalent) work experience in the occupation for which they are offered a job.
The BC PNP is now defining “directly related work experience” as paid employment that is classified under the same NOC code as the British Columbia job offer. Experience in a related occupation at a NOC Skill Level equal to or greater than the NOC code of the B.C. job offer may be considered “directly related” where there is a reasonable explanation, however, experience in a lower skill level NOC occupation will not be. It is important to note that this new definition of “directly related work experience” may negatively impact people who have been recently promoted.
The Health Care Professionalsprogram is for individuals have an offer of indeterminate, full-time employment with a public health authority in an occupation that is an a prescribed list of occupations related to health care, including physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and, in certain circumstances, midwives. Applicants must have a minimum of two years of directly related full-time (or full-time equivalent) work experience.
The International Graduatesprogram is for recent graduates who have an offer of indeterminate, full-time employment with an eligible employer in British Columbia. The position must be in an occupation classified under NOC Skill Level 0, A, or B. Alternatively, if the position is in a NOC Skill Level C or D occupation, then the applicant’s employer must demonstrate that there is a structured career plan in place that will lead to a NOC Skill Level 0, A, or B position. No previous employment experience is required; however, applicants must have a degree, diploma or certificate from an eligible post-secondary institution in Canada, and must apply to the BC PNP within two years of graduating.
The International Post-Graduates program is for recent graduates who have a masters or doctoral degree from an eligible program at a post-secondary institution in British Columbia. The program must be in agriculture, biological and biomedical sciences, computer and information sciences and support services, engineering, engineering technology, health professions and related clinical sciences, mathematics and statistics, natural resources conversation and research, or physical sciences. No job offer is required; however, applicants must apply within two years of graduating.
The Entry Level and Semi-Skilled (“ELSS“) program is for individuals who been employed full-time by a B.C. employer in an eligible occupation for at least nine consecutive months immediately prior to applying to the BC PNP, and who have a full-time and indeterminate job offer in that occupation from the same employer who employed them during those 9 months. Eligible occupations are prescribed, and include those in tourism and hospitality, long-haul trucking, and food processing. In addition to the nine months experience requirement, long-haul trucker drivers must also have at least two years of employment experience as a long-haul truck driver in the three year period before registering Skills Immigration Registration System. The current occupations that are eligible for the ELSS program in the tourism and hospitality sector are::

The Northeast Pilot Project is for individuals who have any full-time job offer in an NOC Skill Level C or D occupation, where that job is located in Northeast British Columbia. This pilot project program will run until March 31, 2016, and may be extended.
The following are additional requirements that apply to all programs above that are based on a job offer:
The job offer must contain a wage that is competitive with B.C. wage rates for that occupation.
The job offer must establish an employee/employer relationship with the employer. Independent contractor relationships are not accepted.
If the job offer is in a NOC Skill Level B, C, or D, position, then the applicant will have to complete a language test, and demonstrate English or French language proficiency at a Canadian Language Benchmark 4 level in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. As well, the BC PNP may, at its discretion, require an applicant with a job offer in a NOC Skill Level 0 or A position to complete a language test where the BC PNP has concerns about an applicant’s language ability. The BC PNP will not approve applications where there are reasonable grounds to believe that an employer offered increased an employee’s wage for the purpose of meeting minimum income requirements, or for the purpose of obtaining a higher registration score.
The applicant cannot own more than 10% of the company that has offered the applicant employment.
Where the applicant is not already working for the employer, then the employer will have to conduct two weeks of bona fide and reasonable recruitment.
The employer must have operated in B.C. for at least one year prior to the registration being submitted, and two years for applicants in the ELSS program or the Northeast Pilot Project.
If located in Metro Vancouver, the employer must have five or more full-time (or full-time equivalent) and indeterminate employees. If the employer is located outside of Metro Vancouver, it must have at least three.
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the BC PNP’s minimum income requirements. This minimum necessary income will depend on an applicant’s family size and area of residence in British Columbia. Applicants who are already working in British Columbia must demonstrate a history of having met the minimum necessary income requirement prior to registering. ELSS applicants must have met the minimum income requirement for the full duration of their 9 qualifying months of employment. A spouse’s income will only be considered towards the minimum necessary income where the spouse has a valid work permit and is currently employed in British Columbia.
The BC PNP will not approve applications where there are reasonable grounds to believe that an employer increased an employee’s wage for the purpose of meeting minimum income requirements, or for the purpose of obtaining a higher registration score.
The minimum income cutoff is.

Finally, in all programs, applicants who are out of status and who have not applied for restoration of status will not be able to apply to the BC PNP. Applicants who are in IRCC’s Express Entry pool should know that the BC PNP also has the following categories.
Express Entry BC – Skilled Workers
Express Entry BC – Health Care Professionals
Express Entry BC – International Graduates
Express Entry BC – International Post-Graduates
The Express Entry BC program requirements are similar to their corresponding non-Express Entry program requirements, with the exception that applicants must be in IRCC’s Express Entry pool at the time of registration, and Express Entry BC – International Graduates program participants require a job offer in a NOC Skill Level 0, A, or B position. In 2015 the advantage of applying to an Express Entry BC program rather than its corresponding non-Express Entry BC program was that the Express Entry BC programs had faster processing times. The same will presumably be true in 2016. Source
